Dry shampoo is exactly what you need for those days when your hair needs to be washed but there is no water or there is not time to wash it with water. They work by absorbing the oil and dirt that makes your hair look dirty and dull. It is not advisable to use this product regularly in place of the liquid shampoos but you can always use it in case of an emergency. This is because this shampoo does not remove the build up in your hair from all the styling products that you use on a daily basis. The shampoo is made from several natural substances that you can put on your hair and brush out to give your hair a nice sheen and fragrance while cleansing it gently.
Dry shampoo can be bought from the shops but it is also possible to make your own at home to use during emergencies. Some of the things that you can use as homemade shampoo include orris root powder, large grain salt, corn meal, ground oatmeal, talcum powder, cornstarch, dry clay, baking soda and semolina flour. Experiment to find out which ingredient works well for your hair and which one does not. Essential oils are usually added to the ingredient you choose to strengthen the hair, give it a shine and aid growth. Brush your hair before you use the homemade shampoo to remove any tangles and make sure you use it over your sink to prevent any mess on your floor. Make sure you massage it all over your scalp and leave it in for about 5 to 10 minutes. You can leave it in longer if your hair is very dirty or oily.

The dry shampoos that are available in the shops are usually made using natural products such as oatmeal and are in spray form. Some of the ingredients that are contained in these shampoos include Propane, Butane, Starch, Isobutane and fragrance. The shampoo must be well shaken before it is used and an even amount of the powder should then be sprayed on the hair. The powder should be left in the hair for about 2 or 3 minutes to make sure that it absorbs the dirt and oil in the hair. Brush the powder out after the time has passed and ensure that you do not breathe in the powder. The dry shampoo powder should also not come into any contact with your eyes when you are brushing it out.
